I recently taught a 3-day wine course in Mumbai (under the WSET Level-2 Intermediate Certificate Program). The course was attended by 12 eager candidates from the trade (hotels, restaurants, importers).
The course was held at Trident Bandra-Kurla from March 16th-18th. Over 35 wines from around the world were served as part of the course. Most of the attendees are directly involved with wine service at their properties. Wine is a major money spinner for fine-dining properties and its no surprise that they’re beginning to invest in specialized training for their teams. Professional training in almost any field should be viewed as an investment, not as a cost. Wine is no different. I’m confident that the candidates who attended the program will see a marked improvement in their understanding of wine, and in their ability to sell it. A side-benefit of course is that fact that the attendees’ appreciation of wine will improve and they can look forward to more enjoyment from their own wine drinking.
